Womb Service
Film Poster (Square)
Womb Service is my Senior Thesis animated short film that I completed my senior year at the Ringling College of Art and Design. Every part of this film, from script to screen, was completed by me with the advice and guidance of my professors and peers. On this page, you can get a glimpse into the entire process, as well as my added notes and commentary on the experience. Thanks for checking it out!
The Idea
The idea for this film came to me about one quarter into the Spring semester of my Junior Year, while finishing up our first story reel for our potential thesis in PreProduction. I was chatting with one of my friends one night and the conversation somehow landed on pregnancy cravings. She told me about how her mom, who never ate olives before, craved olives all the time while pregnant with her. So much so that their fridge was filled with them! After she was born, her mom couldn't stand to eat another olive. I joked that it wasn't her mom who craved olives, it was her, and that all pregnancy cravings were just what the baby wanted to eat. We laughed about it, and I offhandedly said that maybe that would be in my next round of pitches for thesis.
A week or so later while I was putting my story pitches together, I came up with the title. I knew then that Womb Service would ultimately become my thesis film.
